The opening ceremony for the Scout Camp at
Sriwittayapaknam School took place at 7.30 a.m. Homage was first
paid to the Buddha image and then to the image of King Rama VI
who is regarded as the Father of Thai Scouting.
About 180 Scouts from Primary 6 took part
in the three day camp at the school. Scouting is compulsory in
Thailand for students and is part of the school curriculum. The
Scout Camp is quite intensive with both theory and practical
work. The Scouts had to take notes as there were numerous tests
for them.
The flag raising ceremony took place in the
playground. The flag was raised while the Thai national anthem
was sung by all of the Scouts and leaders. Afterwards, the Scouts
took part in Buddhist chanting. About 95% of Thai people are
Buddhists.
