Thailand, Land of Smiles, a country with richness in culture and nature, would like to extend warm invitation to all Scouts and leaders from the National Scout Organizations and members of WOSM to come to Thailand in 2003 for the 20th World Scout Jamboree. We will offer them good opportunity to experience for themselves the enchanted beauty of our land, our warm hospitality and friendliness, the exchange of different cultures and traditions to create peace, harmony and friendship in world brotherhood.

Share Our World, Share Our Culture

The Jamboree will be a great gathering event, providing an opportunity for 30,000 Scouts from all over the world to spend 12 days camping together and attend interesting actvities which will be designed for them in self-development and social responsibility within the framework of the educational Scout method. The Jamboree will foster the progress and unity of World Scout Movement to the next millenium and will also strongly link it to the Asian cultures which open up to modernity, both in terms of activities and method used in cheerful and friendly atmosphere.

Jamboree Theme: The theme of the 20th World Scout Jamboree, 2003 Thailand is "Share our World, Share our Cultures". This is a unique opportunity for young people from all around the world to take part in this world event in the Scouting spirit of sharing, living and learning our cultural diversity. The Cross Roads of Culture, one of the 8 modules in this Jamboree, will be a meeting point for youth of the new millenium.

Participants: Boys and girls who are eligible to take part in this event are those aged between 14 and 18 years old on 28 December 2002, that is born between 29 December 1984 and 28 December 1988. As with previous Jamborees, the standard troop size will be 36 youths plus 4 adult leaders. Troops should be organised into four patrols of 9 young people. Contingents which do not have enough patrols to form a full troop will be joined with patrols from other countries to form a troop. You will need to provide one adult leader for each of your patrols in such a combined troop. Service Staff are young adults from 18 to 30 willing to undertake a service task allocated by the Jamboree Organising Committee. Service Staff who have been accepted by the National Scout Association of Thailand may be included in the national contingent. Applications must be made in advance to the NSOT. Contingent Headquarters Staff are adult leaders needed to support the contingent. They are requested not to camp nor eat with the troop or patrol as the World Scout Jamboree is a youth event.

Members of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) may take part in the 20th World Scout Jamboree under the conditions agreed between WOSM and WAGGGS as follows:

- For National Scout and Guide Associations (i.e. those which are members of both WOSM and WAGGGS), invitations to the World Scout Jamboree are addressed not only to WOSM registered youth and adults but also to those members registered with WAGGGS.

- Youth and adults of National Girl Guide/Girl Scout Associations (i.e. which are members of WAGGGS only) may attend the event with the agreement of the WOSM organisation in their country. Girl Guides/Girl Scouts attending such events will be part of the pespective national contingent. There will therefore be no WAGGGS contingent.

Registration Fees: The registration fees for the 20th World Scout Jamboree have been set in agreement with the World Scout Committee at its November 1999 session, using a tiered system based on the same criteria as for the WOSM fee system. There are four levels of registration fees, in accordance with the Gross National Product (GNP) per capital of each country. [MORE]

The Future: Our Scouting in Thailand web site went on-line in early 1998. We started the Jamboree pages that same year. There is still a lot more to come so do call back again to see up-dates. Our aim is to show Scouts from around the world what life in Thailand is like. We have already started to produce pages on Thai culture and customs to share with you over the coming months. In the meantime you might like to visit our main web site for students doing a project about Thailand.
