The pictures on this page show Cub Scouts making Papaya Salad (Som Tam), which is a Thai spicy salad. In Thai, som means sour and tam means to pound with a mortar and pestle. That is what you can see the Cub Scouts doing in the above pictures.

To make Som Tam, you pound grated green papaya in a mortar with lime juice, garlic, fish sauce, fresh chilies, cherry tomatoes, green beans, small dried shrimp, and roasted peanuts.

Sticky rice and chicken

Would you like some?
Once finished, the salad is transferred to a plate and is served with sticky rice and chicken. As you can see by the smiling faces, the spicy salad is very delicious.
