The pictures on this page
show Cub Scouts making Papaya Salad (Som Tam),
which is a Thai spicy salad. In Thai, som means sour and
tam means to pound with a mortar and pestle. That is what
you can see the Cub Scouts doing in the above pictures. |

 |
|
To make Som Tam, you pound
grated green papaya in a mortar with lime juice, garlic, fish
sauce, fresh chilies, cherry tomatoes, green beans, small dried
shrimp, and roasted peanuts. |

Once finished, the salad is
transferred to a plate and is served with sticky rice and chicken.
As you can see by the smiling faces, the spicy salad is very
delicious. |
