CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT:
Objectives:
This area of the curriculum aims to enable
learners to develop value, attitude, behaviour and personality
with emphasis on being thoughtful, practical and adaptable through
certain learning activities in Ethics Education, Art Education,
Physical Education, Music and Dances, and Cub Scouts. Thus the
curriculum is designed to cultivate the following characteristics:
- Knowledge and understanding of moral and
aesthetics principles as well as ability to take care of physical
and mental health.
- Competence in analysing, criticising,
problem-solving, expressing and working cooperatively.
- Self-sacrifice, unity, discipline, frugality,
honesty, gratitude, love to work and appreciation of exercises.
- Interest in learning and ways of working,
creativity and application of knowledge in decision making and
problem solving in daily life and work.
- Ability to improve oneself toward desirable
characteristics and to apply knowledge in solving personality
problems and personality development.
Cub Scouts (Grades 1-4)
Description:
Conducting pack meeting session, practising
according to Scouting procedures and organising the following
activities: studying, analysing, planning, implementing activities
at activity bases with emphasis on den system and concluding
results of activities, and closing the session with the following
topics:
- Pre-Cub Scout: the story of Maowgli, history
of Cub Scout, group salute (grand howl) and individual salute,
left hand-shaking, fundamental rules for Scout drill, the Promise,
the Law of the Pack and Cub Scout mottos.
- Cub Scout 1st, 2nd and 3rd Star: hygiene,
skills, surveying, exploring nature, safety, services, flags
and other countries, handicrafts, outdoor activities, recreation,
tying knots, the Promise and the Law of the Pack.
The objective is to enable learners to
gain knowledge and understanding about Cub Scout activities;
to keep the Promise and practise according to the Law of the
Pack and the mottos; to develop observing and memorising habits;
to be lively, well disciplined, economical, honest, patient,
devoted and unselfish; to help themselves and others; to be good
leaders as well as good followers; to work and live with others,
to develop interest and conserve nature and environment.
Note: After passing the test in section
1, each learner will receive Cub Scout badge. After participating
in all activities and passing all tests, each learner will receive
badges of 1st, 2nd and 3rd star, successively. |
